Anybody experimented running HOW with some expendable character resource such as fate/luck/courage/fortune/plot points? By spending the points a player can modify the outcome of an unfavorable challenge. I was first introduced to the idea in James Bond 007 from Victory Games.
I figure pending a point equates to a re-roll of the dice, either Attribute/skill or damage. Alternatively it equates to an extra combat action either attack or defense although I suppose a little extra movement from adrenalin is reasonable. Spending a point might also buy back a few STR/END points, either a 1d6 roll or a flat 2 or 3.
Generous Referees may allow points be spent to force an opponent to reroll the dice but nullifying dice rolls usually sucks the drama out of a situation.
I've yet to run HOW so none of this has been playtested.
