beware: there be radical concepts here - allow 2H weapon attacks to test against ST or DX
i have a rationale here but can't find the words
- allow 1H, thrown, or missile attacks to test against DX or IQ
rely on pure coordination or perception and insight; sort of a Tactics(IQ) test
- allow Reactions to test against DX or IQ

ok, guys. let's kick the hell out of these cans!

i'm not crazy about #2 at all. i'm going to revise... - allow melee attacks to test against ST or DX
- allow reactions to test against DX or IQ
these ideas come from D&D - where a character's STR or DEX bonus could be applied to melee attacks and, at least in D&D4e, a character could choose between his DEX or INT bonus for calculating his AC. so, these ideas are actually not that radical. these ideas allow characters to be created that have high survivability rate without putting most of their points in DX. the amount of weight that DX normally carries can be shifted/split into ST and IQ. ST10 DX14 IQ10 will still be more 'survivable' than ST12 DX10 IQ12, but the difference is much less severe. also, consider that this idea would let ST10 DX14 IQ10 wear plate armor that adjusts DX down to DX14(8) but the character could check against IQ10 for Dodge, Shield Block, or Parry and against ST10 for melee attacks. The heavy armor is still heavy and hinders actions, slowing Movement down to 4 (8 / 2). this seems acceptable to me. what about ST12 DX10 IQ12 wearing plate? ST12 DX10(4) IQ12; movement slows to 2; melee attacks against 12; reactions against 12; ranged attacks against 4! he won't be winning any races, games of darts, or archery contests, but he has a high probability of survival. i'm not sure if this guy is acceptable...
