If you are engaged by 2 enemies and you Dodge the first attack, can that 1 space move be away from the second attacker - thus making it so they cannot melee attack you? Does that question make sense? Not sure if I worded that correctly...

It seems like it would be quite the friend as long as you don't need the 4/dx test. I guess eventually you could back yourself into a corner too though.
Thanks for the replies too. I don't play that often so I almost feel like I have to relearn certain things in the game every time.

actually, i still have a lot of 'LAW mentality'. Dodge is your BFF...unless you have multiple parries. no matter what your DX is, weapon skill makes parry more likely to succeed than dodge.
if you're backed into a corner, it usually means you're outnumbered (character-wise, not necessarily party-wise). if i'm outnumbered, can i take one of the foes out real quick (low ST)? who's going to do the most damage to me? what are his chances of actually hitting me? is there another guy that is most certainly going to hit me? pick one of the guys and focus on killing and defending him. they may shave a few layers of your skin off, but eventually you'll be down to one attacker or, hopefully, you'll hold out long enough for a comrade to aid you. in a one on one situation you're going to win if you have enough EN/ST left and have a reasonable DX. (provided you aren't single-handedly taking on one or more very large foes) at the very least, you took one or two of THEM out which leaves your comrades in a better position to save/resuscitate you.
DX is NEVER my lowest score, not even for wizards. it's usually my highest score for non-wizards. high DX is what saves hides and skin hides until you can build up a fair amount of weapon skill.
