i saw a discussion somewhere about Blur, Reverse Missiles, and other similar Instant spells. the potential problem being that something like Blur may not be terribly useful if it only lasts for an instant.
one house-rule option for these particular spells (not all Instant spells) might be to say they last one round/turn (is there a difference?) plus an additional round/turn for each additional point of EN expended in their casting.
maybe this is what was intended. i don't know. thoughts?

The spells come straight from Wizard/TFT and were dealt with exactly as you say in their original conception. Cost to cast, then ST cost each turn to maintain.
HOW has done away with the book-keeping (as does LAW) which is a good thing, but in so doing the Author changed some of the renewable thrown spells like Blur and Reverse Missiles to Instant effect whilst keeping others such as Invisibility as Timed spells. This is inconsistent and makes no sense to me. The author has explained his reasoning on another thread but I prefer to have them all as Timed spells. The EN cost can always be increased if they are felt to be too cheap.

it doesn't make sense to me either unless you're trying to make them cost more...and the simplest solution to that is...just make them cost more LOL.

ah, wait. i just found the convo you and fenway5 were having about this. i guess i posted this in the wrong place. the decision was made to make them instant in order to limit their duration. the duration = IQ turns rule is a fair, simple rule in most cases. i can understand where fenway5 was coming from. that's why i'm saying just add 1 extra point of EN cost per extra turn you want it to last...up-front, when you initially cast the spell. no book-keeping. that makes sense to me. i'm going to repost this in that thread. please do not post here anymore so this thread can die. i should not have posted this here. sorry. PLEASE DO NOT POST HERE. INSTEAD, GO TO: heroworlds.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=magic&action=display&thread=8&page=1
