A defender may perform up to 3 reactions per round. The second and third reactions use 1 additional die for the reaction test.
Dodge (defensive)
A defender dodges an attack by passing a DX test. He uses the result of the passing test to reduce the damage of the attack. If he opts to drop a weapon or shield, he avoids all damage from the attack. He must move into an empty, adjacent space to dodge. If the defender rolls an 18 or higher on the Dodge DX test, he falls down in his current space. The Acrobatic skill may be applied to a dodge test. Only one Dodge may be performed per round.
Duck (defensive)
A defender ducks an attack by passing a DX test. He reduces the damage of the attack by the result of the test. If he opts to drop a weapon or shield, he avoids all damage from the attack. The defender must fall into a prone state in his current space to duck whether or not he passes the DX test. After ducking, he suffers the disadvantages of the lower or prone position. His attackers benefit from higher position until he stands up. The Acrobatic skill may be applied to a duck test. Only one Duck may be performed per round.
Shield Block (defensive)
A defender with a shield may use it to block damage from an attack by passing a ST test. The result of the passing test is used to reduce the damage of the attack. If the defender chooses to sacrifice his shield, he may block all damage from the attack and his shield breaks. Note that he must still pass the ST test. If the defender rolls 18 or higher on the shield block test, he drops the shield. The Shield skill may be applied to the shield block test.
Parry (defensive)
A defender wielding a striking weapon may use it to block damage from a striking attack by passing a DX test. The result of the passing test is used to reduce the damage of the attack. If the defender chooses to sacrifice his weapon, he may block all damage from the attack and his weapon breaks. Note that he must still pass the DX test. If the defender rolls 18 or higher on the parry test, he drops the weapon. The defender's weapon skill with the weapon used may be applied to the parry test.
